The CBK Story, an Unauthorized Autobiography... The first day of the summer of 2001 Stephen Jones and Chris Zimmermann knocked on the Castanedas door. They had met before at a show at Fitz but they didnt really know each other, other than Adam and Stevo ran cross country together for a bit. It was odd, they just came to our door. Andybat had just switched from drums to guitar, and Adam was burnt out from dog paddling in the crappy music scene that dominated Klein from 1997-2001. For months the brothers had wanted to start a band. That day 4 rudeboys and punks started a band, each with a genuine interest in making punk and ska music. That day we had our first practice. We kinda just jammed for a bit. A few days later we started writing songs and learning the favorites like "infested" and "if the kids are united" and actually did them pretty well. So the four superfriends started practicing regularly, by regularly i mean everyday. We worked our asses off trying to get better. We'd wake up early and head to CZ's house, play all day, at 3 we'd find food then jam out till 7 and stumble home tired and dehydrated. Somewhere in our incessant practicing we stumbled upon the name CBK!, whose meaning is still top secret. And then Adam called up Javajazz and booked us a show at the first ever Showcase Show. hardly anyone came for us because 30FootFall was playing that night down at Fitz, but it was a good first show. We kept practicing kept booking shows at Javajazz (java jizz as it later became known). Then we started hitting big shows like with the Guilla-teens and the Suspects, suddenly people were liking us. People were skankin and moshing and just having a really good time when we played, it was great. When september came around Adam had to go to college, so practice was limited. In this time, however, we managed to bang out a secret record that has only been heard by a select few. But alas Stevo got grounded, CZ got a job, Andybat got a girly friend. And we decided to take sorta a hiatus from performing. We all kinda went our own seperate musical ways discovering what exactly the ska was and how it should be played. And learning to express ourselves through our instruments. we lost a whole buncha shows cuz of it, like the Middlefinger show and the Secret Agent 8 show, losing that was upsetting. But we hadta do it. CZ and Andybat practiced when they could and Adam came down every once and a while. In early March we started really practicing again, like hard hitting fast practicing. We started recording again and writing like you wouldnt believe. Our comeback explosion of our love for music that has been locked up for 5 or 6 months is set for May, and the summer shall be full of skankin shows The comeback was no-doubtedly amazing. We were playing shows again and loving it. We acquired a digital recorder and decided to begin recording for our first album (The Night of the Skankin Dead) during the summer. During the recording process, some in-band-conflicts arose and we decided that the only thing to be done was break up. We set our farewell show for July 5th, 2002. We would be playin with Secret Agent 8 for the first time after almost a year of working out a show schedule with them. We played our hardest that day, to give the fans a performance to remember, and boy was it. Well, Secret Agent 8 were amazed by our stage show and were shocked to hear that we were breaking up. They offered for us to play more shows with them and they said many nice things about us and told us to think twice about parting ways. It didn't take us long to forget our little differences and realize that music was our connection. So we began playing shows again. Harder, faster, and far more sexy shows than ever before. The introduction of two new members (Ryan Wald-Tbone, and Lindsay Dixon-Saxaphone) has opened up our music for even more expansion, and we believe our fans will enjoy it greatly. We still have plans to record our full length and release it for you guys in the near future, but details on that are still sketchy. Until next time...CBK! lives on, and don't stop skankin... UPDATE, 3/1/03 Unfortunately, as of last night's show (2/28/03) original guitarist Andy Castaneda is no longer a member of CBK. He will probably finish up recording the current material for the album, however. The loss of having such a great friend to all members in the band will undoubtedly be a tough hurdle to get over, but the remaining three original members (Stephen Jones, Chris Zimmermann, Adam Castaneda) and horn section (Lindsay Dixxon, Ryan Wald) additions are pushing on. Upon his announcement of leaving, CBK began searching for a new guitarist. We stumbled upon longtime fan Stephen Neely and decided that we were in a desperate situation, so we settled with him. Haha no, just kidding. We took many things into consideration and after long deliberation we decided that he was perfect for the job. Now we must concentrate on helping him learn all of our material, and hopefully start writing again. We will be back playing more hard-hitting shows in no time. CBK! Lives on once again!! and as always, don't stop skankin... |
| ADAM OK, I am the oldest of the CBK crew. Back in the day there werent alot of punk or ska musicians around Klein so I was forced to join any band i could squeeze into, blues, jazz, metal, jam, you name it I've prolly done it. Learning all these styles first-hand prepared me for locking with CZ to provide a rocksteady rythm section. Although, I've never taken a bass lesson, i was trained in Music Theory and composition by the infamous TC. I play a 1997 American Fender Jazz bass Deluxe and a 1999 Warwick Corvette PRO through a 250 watt all tube Messa Boogie amp through an Ampeg 4x12 cab. My main influences are Operation Ivy, Rancid, Hepcat, New York Ska Jazz Ensemble, the SLACKERS, the Nods, Prince Buster, Jimmy Cliff, Delroy Wilson, Toots and the Maytals, THE CLASH, Desmond Dekker, Tiger Army, Judge Dread, Arthur kay, THE BEATLES anyone who thinks they arent influenced by the beatles is a fucking moron, SRV and Double Trouble, Dave Hillyard Rocksteady 7, All the musicians ive had the honor of playing with, my band, Sublime, Queen, Madness, the Specials, The Selecter, Maroon Town and all the TwoTone artists that paved the way for us thank you for everything. |

CZ Originally from Switzerland, Chris started taking drumset lessons at the bountyful age of 9, instead of piano lessons (which was the most common type of musical lesson taken by all 9 year olds at the time). The youngest drummer in the program, it came to be that Chris would play drums for many years to come, and despise cheese even longer. Ok enough of the junk. I play the drums & percussion for CBK!. I use a very old and shabby set, which i don't care too much to go through a description of either, except that I don't use a double bass pedal-just build foot chops.(check the pictures - should give you an idea). Some inspirational drummers: Dave Weckl, Mike Portnoy, Dean Sheuer, Clark Gardner, the Aquabats' former drummer (who's name won't be mentioned here), Skewrt, Allen Teboul, and drum corps. |
| Andybat! hey kids!andybat here, i play guitar for the cbklan, provide the skank section. i dont have much of a history with the guitar. there has been one in my house since i was like 12 or 13, but i didnt know what to do with it, let alone play it. i picked up a few things here and there. in 8th grade i was in alot of those one day bands, haha, geez those were the days. i generally would be the drum player, but i had no rythme...so they never lasted long. i switched from drums to guitar when my now two bestfriends came by and cz said he already played drums...so i switched. i didnt know much, just powerchords, but i learned i learned like crazy. about a month or so after we started i felt compelled to move from my dads guitar to my own, so i went down to house of guitars and picked up a nice hollow body dot which came to be known as "Big Red".Seeking new tones i picked up a mexican tele, reminds me of Mr. Strummer-good guy, anyways i run trhough a fender tonemaster cab, loaded with Celstion Vintage 30s, to power this massive casterless cabinet i use a fender prosonic head, which tends to short and pop and yeah , but along with those annoying pops and waht not comes some great tone. |

STEPHEN Well, I'm Stephen, also known to some as 'Stevo'. I provide the vocals in the musical ensemble. Whether or not I sound good is up to you. There isn't much to say about me because there isn't much to me. I was born in the 9th Ward (or Baywater) New Orleans, Louisiana on June 16th, 1986. Because of this birthdate I am the youngest member of CBK!, but most attractive byfar. I like listening to music of all types, including but not limited to Ska, Reggae (not Raga), anything else Irie, Oldies, 80s rock, Jazz, Classical, occasionally Punk, and yes HipHop and/or Rap. I would make a list of my favorite bands, but I am quite lazy as most of you might already know. Well that was my bio and I hope I didn't put you to sleep. oh ya, Support your local CBK! ADIOS-Stevo ps. I would put up my AIM SN, but I don't like being stalked, haha |
